Our History
The Local was chartered on December 21st, 1938 under District 23 of the International Woodworkers of America, CIO (IWA). Named Local 157, we represented workers in logging and sawmilling opreations in and around Enumclaw, Washington.
Over the next several decades the Local expanded to include log export yards, plywood, and door manufacturing workers throughout the Puget Sound region. On July 1st, 1987, the Local was realigned into Region III of the IWA and re-chartered as Local Lodge 3-157. On May 1st, 1994, the IWA merged with the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, AFL-CIO. The Local then became know as Lodge W157. In October of 2000, the Local merged with Lodge W9 which had been located in Tacoma, Washington. Together, the memberships of the newly merged Lodge have stepped up to the challenges facing the Forest Products Industry in the 21st Century.
